Sewing machine adventures - part 3

Adventures with a sewing maching part 3

My dress now has a top. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me so I do not have pictures. It's actually coming along quite nicely. I still need to connect the skirt and top, add a zipper and hem the skirt, but hopefully in another visit or two to the sewing machine I'll be able to finish it.
Yay productivity :)

Sewing machine adventures - part 2

Adventures with a sewing machine part 2

So I went back to my grandmother's sewing machine and started sewing a dress from a pattern. I'm actually making something real! Admittedly it will probably end up slightly crooked, and I don't quite know how to follow a pattern, but the main point is I'm doing it!

And look - it's a skirt:

Eventually it will be a dress!

Jack-o'-lantern

And then I made a jack-o-lantern. Not a real one, we don't have pumpkins in my area, but a cloth one. I found scraps of felt lying around, and was in a creative mood. First I cut the shapes out. I made two circular pumpkin halves, three triangles for the eyes and nose, a mouth, a stem and a leaf. I did the circles without any kind of guide so they are a bit crooked, but not too bad. However, I did first trace the mouth out, which definitely helped.

I sewed on the face to the outside of one side. Then I sewed the stem and leaf upside-down to the outside of the other piece.

After attaching the pumpkin halves to each other, while having them both face inwards, I had a little orange pillow:

And, after flipping it, I had a (slightly crooked) jack-o-lantern that would stay cheerful all year round.

Sewing machine adventure - part 1

I had never used a sewing machine before. I also do not have much experience sewing by hand, but I have done so in the past. So I decided it was time to learn to use one, and I went over to my grandmother's, who owns a machine. She first taught me how to work it – how to change the needle, insert the thread and so on. I then experimented with different kinds of stitches.

After that I made a rather crooked heart

And a less crooked star

I already have plans to go back, maybe this time I will actually make something.
